Hipster

Q: How many hipsters does it take to change a light bulb?

A: It’s some obscure number.  You’ve probably never heard of it.

  1. I think that’s a pretty lame description of a hipster. Their style is impeccable and more often than not they are smart, cultures, and actually able to keep up a conversation about non materialistic things.

    Just saying.

  2. Hey,

I drew the black and white comic for the Columbia University humor paper, The Fed, back in 2003. It’s since been the number one or two google image result for “hipster” ever since, but which site comes up with it has changed over the years. I like that it keeps getting blogged, though it’s starting to show its age.

I’m guess what I’m saying is that I was into that comic before all of you. *sips PBR, and listens to The Good Good on 1st gen iPod, thinking about taking some Polaroids of my upcoming kickball game*

    • Hey Carter,

Kudos. That’s awesome comic and I’m happy to make contact with the original artist. In some areas, the definition you’ve put forth still holds pretty accurate. Thanks for your contribution!

  3. Who really gives a flip who’s cool? I wasn’t cool in 69, I wasn’t cool in 78, def not in 83, nor in 97, and now? Still not cool. And yet, somehow, I soldier on. Yeah, it’s a struggle. Maybe I could drag out those old pumas. My glasses are probably envied by the hip, because they are so retro. Retro my ass, they’re old. And not hip either.
Drank PBR in 69. Will drink it now. If nothing better is around.
    Sad that’s all they have.

  5. Q: How many hipsters does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Two. One to change the light bulb and another to take a picture and post it on instagram.

  7. Seems like the hipster is a specific incarnation of someone whose public persona supercedes everything. Is this basically the arms race for distinction we see in Dr Suess’ the sneetches on the beaches? Maybe the digital age has brought too much scope into our lives and being a hipster is one way another faceless lemming can feel a sense of identity.

  8. Greate article. Keep writing such kind of information on your site.
    Im really impressed by it.
Hi there, You have performed a great job. I’ll definitely digg it and in my view recommend to my friends. I am sure they’ll be benefited from this website.
